ICFF 2010

 ICFF

African designers live in a diverse world of dynamic, contrasting influences: nature's calm and urban energy; cultural traditions and individual identity; local resources and industrial materials; handmade artisanship and new technologies. Their artistic ingenuity drives design with substance and is forging connections with universal values.

At the ICFF, Amaridian and Design Africa will debut a select portfolio of studios from across Africa, representing a range of media and product categories. These companies have been chosen for their unique work and commercial excellence.

MUD Ceramics
Working with local, disadvantaged communities on an arid, South African plateau, Werner and Philippa du Toit have transformed the harsh African soil into a promising light of social development and multicultural cooperation.

Ronel Jordaan Textiles
Ronel Jordaan is inspired by nature. Through the medium of felted wool, her original designs playfully and eloquently echo organic forms and textures. These elements infuse a home with the comforting serenity, purity and beauty of the outdoors.

Tekura Design
Honoring cultural heritage and the rich dynamism of their daily lives in Accra, Ghana, Tekura's designers, Kweku and Josephine Forson, create stylish interpretations of legendary Ashanti and Fanti artistry. Each of their handmade pieces resonates with authenticity and simple elegance.

Willowlamp
Willowlamp's dynamic designers, Sian Eliot and Adam Hoets, ingeniously marry organic forms with industrial materials and processes to create a dramatic new species of lighting. Beginning with humble strands of everyday ball-chain, they use laser cut stainless steel frames to shape radiant representations of nature.
